The Maasdam's Strap Pull'R is one of the most versatile pieces of equipment one can own, capable of strapping down and pulling. They are a must for anyone hauling with trucks, trailers, and other equipment. These are great for hauling and protecting cargo since the cloth-like straps will not gouge into wood, vinyl, steel, and aluminum as standard come-a-longs would. They are also handy for a number of agricultural and automotive uses such as vehicle recovery, securing motorcyles and ATVs, race car, auto, tractor, equipement tie down, forestry and
logging, and animal loading.
History of the Come-Along
The Power Pull or Come-Along first originated in Deep Creek, CO. Abraham and son, Felber, Maasdam, invented it from old bicycle parts and a couple of pieces of wood, in 1919. Felber eventually went on to become a famous photographer and also the entrepreneur of the world's premier power pull manufacturing company. The original power pull is still in possession of the Maasdam Family.
Felber Maasdam has had many accomplishments such as, being part of the survey crew for the construction of the Hoover Dam, attending the University of Nebraska, working for the Lincoln Police Department, producing films, and serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII.
Finally Felber took up the power pull again with his father in a Dayton, Ohio garage. This is where the first 200 mass-produced power pulls were hand constructed by the two, in 1946. The first 150 were sold to Lesoto Tool Co. in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Four years later, Felber Maasdam moved to North Hollywood, CA, intent on producing the best power pull available. With one punch press in 1000 sq. feet of space, Mr. Maasdam spent his days producing power pulls and his nights photographing the stars of Hollywood. Mr. Maasdam also enjoyed 17 years of travel with Bob Hope as his cameraman while visiting troops overseas.
The Maasdam Company has continued to grow over the years. Other companies have also realized the importance of the come-along and now compete with the Maasdam Company. These are companies such as the American Power Pull Company. All of these power pulls perform their jobs well and the companies are constantly working on improving their products. Now the market for power pulls has expanded to such things as heavy weight power pulls and strap power pulls, there is always a new use for a power pull and a new way to make them more efficient.
